The 600-foot World's Fair Space Needle is framed by the towering Science Arches of the U.S. Science Exhibit." In an interview with The Seattle Times, architects Minoru Yamasaki and Perry Johanson said, "We started the design in February 1960. It was done in four months. There were some advocates for a solid high building with a view. We decided the Space Needle should be the place with a view. We wanted to create a place of serenity."
The U.S. Science Pavilion is now the Pacific Science Center.
