On May 19, 1962, Evalyn Van Vliet became the 1,000,000th visitor to visit the Seattle World's Fair. "This is wonderful," she said. "I'm all shook up."
Here, Mrs. Van Vliet rejoices near the north entrance to the fair as Seattle Times reporter Stanton Patty takes notes. Fair officials rolled out a blue carpet in her honor, and the Space Needle carillon played "I found a Million Dollar Baby." Mrs. Van Vliet's prizes included a tv set, free fair entry for a week for her family, a family lunch at the top of the Space Needle, and a cruise to Victoria.
