On April 10, 1896, the four members of the Seattle YMCA Relay Team easily shut out runners from the University of Washington, the Seattle, Tacoma, and Oregon Athletic Clubs, and other teams to become relay champions of the Pacific Northwest Races. Wearing their ribbons and medals, they posed for their official photo on the following day. The mile-long relay race was but one event at the track meet held in the Seattle Armory. The YMCA runners placed second overall.
