Space Needle and Horiuchi Mural, Seattle World's Fair, 1962
Order an ImageIn this view, the 606-foot-tall Space Needle is shown behind the giant mural created by renowned Northwest artist, Paul Horiuchi. A symbol of the fair, the Space Needle is topped by a circular, glass-enclosed housing that contains an observation deck and revolving restaurant. The 60 by 17-foot ceramic mural was at the time considered the largest work of art in the Pacific Northwest. The mural now forms the backdrop for the amphitheater stage at Seattle Center.
