Boeing’s Model 80 commercial transport airplane was the first Boeing plane designed specifically with passenger comfort in mind. Along with the mail, the first Model 80 carried 12 passengers in a spacious cabin with leather upholstery, reading lamps, ventilation, and hot and cold running water. The larger Model 80-A, its cockpit pictured here, made its first flight on September 12, 1929, and could carry 18 people.
