"Rally 'Round The Flag" poster, 1916
Order an ImageThis poster was created in 1916 by artist Sidney H. Riesenberg for the United States Marine Corps. It encourages Americans to enlist in the Marines with taglines including "Soldiers of the Sea," "Your Country Needs You!" and "First in Defense on Land or Sea." The poster features an illustration of a group of Marines landing on a beach with a US flag behind them and a warship in the background. When the poster was released in 1916, the US was preparing for war but had not yet entered World War I.
