In response to increased activity from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2025 and 2026, the organization WA Whistles formed to “spread whistles throughout WA to help communities protect themselves against ICE.” If ICE is spotted in the area, users are instructed to blow the whistles in certain ways: intermittent for ICE spotted, continuously if someone is being abducted. The alert allows people at risk to go to safety, and for neighbors to “form a crowd [and] stay loud.” The instruction booklet also has the phone number for the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) for people to report ICE activity to their hotline. That number is also printed on the whistle. This whistle and instruction booklet was distributed at the art and community space Push/Pull in Ballard.
