Patch, Earth Day flag, 1980
Earth Day is an annual event held on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.This flag patch features the ecology symbol which was designed in 1969 by Ron Cobb and incorporated into the Earth Day flag in 1970. To create the symbol, Cobb fused the letter 'e' for environment with the letter 'o' for organism to form a shape similar to the Greek letter Theta.
