The TV show “Bill Nye the Science Guy” was filmed and produced in Seattle from 1993-1999. Bill Nye (b. 1955) made or commissioned many of the props that he used on the show to demonstrate scientific principles. These items are part of a demonstration of barometric pressure, also known as the “Delta P” demonstration. Missing from this set is a narrow tank of water, which would sit on the wood pieces. The gauges are suspended above, with tubes down into the tank to measure the pressure. When the side wood pieces are removed, the tank can tip back and forth, with more water on one end or the other. The water represents the atmosphere, the gauges show how pressure changes as more “atmosphere” is over certain areas. This was part of an episode about storms.
