Blue lab coat from Bill Nye the Science Guy TV show, 1990s
This lab coat was worn by Bill Nye (b. 1955) on the groundbreaking science education TV Show Bill Nye the Science Guy. Nye began wearing blue lab coats when he did science demonstrations on the Seattle TV show Almost Live! He was a writer and performer on the King 5 comedy show but had a background as a mechanical engineer and a love of all things scientific. He began doing comedic science demonstrations on Almost Live! which is where the “Bill Nye the Science Guy” moniker started. The lighting and camera crew was adamant that Nye could not wear white on TV and so he had his lab coats dyed blue.
