The J.P. Patches Show aired on KIRO-TV in Seattle from 1958-1981 and broadcast over 10,000 episodes in its 23-year run. Chris Wedes (1928-2012) portrayed the clown J. P. Patches (Julius Pierpont Patches) who was Mayor of the city dump. Bob Newman (1932-2020) played Gertrude, J.P.'s girlfriend, on the show. Gertrude’s outfits usually included colorful dresses, colorful shoes or boots, a red wig made from a mop, and numerous hand-made crowns.
