J.P. Patches outfit, ca. 1990-2010
The J.P. Patches Show aired on KIRO-TV in Seattle from 1958-1981 and broadcast over 10,000 episodes in its 23-year run. Chris Wedes (1928-2012) portrayed the clown J. P. Patches (Julius Pierpont Patches) who was Mayor of the city dump. Bob Newman (1932-2020) played a variety of characters including Gertrude, J.P.'s girlfriend. Even after the show was off the air, Wedes and Newman made frequent public appearances as J.P. and Gertrude. This costume is mostly likely from one of those post-show appearances. The jacket is decorated with patches from various police and first responder departments around Western Washington.
