Mario Borracchini, an Italian immigrant from Tuscany, started his Italian bakery in 1923 in the basement of his home at the south end of Seattle. He soon opened a brick and mortar store and his son Remo took over the business. It was the go-to place to order cakes for birthdays, weddings, or any other celebratory event. In an August 1993 interview with the Seattle Times, Remo stated: We do up to 150 birthday cakes a day. And around 110 wedding cakes every weekend. Last Saturday we did 125 wedding cakes and I figured it out that on that day 13,780 people were eating our wedding cakes in Seattle." Along with take-out spaghetti and other Italian deli selections, they also provided more than 50 types of bread to their customers. This paddle was used for stirring spaghetti sauce, fruit fillings, soup, and other specialties in a large boiler. Remo Borracchini's Italian Bakery was a Seattle staple for nearly 100 years, eventually closing in 2021.
