These long clip-on earrings were worn by Tracey Conway as “The Worst Girlfriend in the World” on the Seattle comedy television show Almost Live! which aired from 1984 to 1999 on KING5 in Seattle. In its earliest years it was like a local version of the Tonight Show, but in 1989 the format changed to be a 30-minute sketch comedy show. Cast member Tracey Conway moved to Seattle after earning an MFA in Drama from the University of Southern California and struggling to find acting work in LA. While temping in Human Resources at KING5 she started getting enlisted as an extra in Almost Live! sketches, including the infamous 1989 April Fool’s Day report about the collapse of the Space Needle. She became an official cast member in 1990 and remained on the show through the finale in 1999. “The Worst Girlfriend in the World” was a reoccurring character of a high-maintenance, cold, and demanding girlfriend named Jill, whose tortured boyfriends would put up with her because she was good in bed. These earrings are from two 1992 sketches “The Worst Girlfriend in Holiday Hell” and “The Worst Girlfriend Moves In.” Conway purchased them at Nordstrom.
