Down vest with roses from Ripstop Rose, ca. 1975

Seattle designer Kathy Hope made appliqued down vests under the name “Ripstop Rose” in the late 1970s and 1980s. This rose design was one of the first she ever made and inspired the name for the brand. It is based on the rose from the Grateful Dead album “American Beauty.” In 1979 she made an exclusive line for Nordstrom which was sold in their “Savvy” department.
