Order an ImageThe artist of this painting is Olive Malstrom Carl (1903-1988) who was born and raised in Tacoma. In 1916, she moved to Seattle where she attended the Seattle Schoool of Art and studied at the Seattle Art Museum. She lived with her family in the Queen Anne neighborhood and, in 1935, she opened the Olive Carl School of Art which welcomed student artists until 1974. Among her many connections to art-related and women's organizations, she served as president of the Women Painters of Washington, a group that was formed in 1930 and still meets at the Seattle Art Museum today.
