The TRS-80 Model 100 portable computer was introduced in 1983 by Tandy and Microsoft, and sold in Radio Shack stores. The 32 KB read-only memory of the Model 100 contains the Microsoft BASIC 80 programming language and was the last computer that Bill Gates had a direct hand in progamming the operating system. He is quoted in an interview with the National Museum of American History as saying, "This is in a sense my favorite machine, I mean by today's standards it is kind of a pathetic machine...Part of my nostalgia about this machine is this was the last machine where I wrote a very high percentage of the code in the product." The donor of this computer was a wire service journalist who traveled extensively, using this portable machine to report on world events. He was one of the first to purchase the TRS-80 Model 100 back in 1983.
