Charga-Plates were an early type of credit card used primarily in the 1930s through 1950s. The cards included the customer’s name, address, and signature, and allowed for purchases on credit. This Charga-Plate was for the Rhodes department store which opened in Seattle in 1907. The downtown Seattle store closed in 1968 and remaining branch stores were rebranded as Lamonts in 1970. The owner of this plate signed her name as Barbara D. Doyle while the embossed metal side uses the common naming convention for married women at that time by listing her as Mrs. Richard C. Doyle.
