Felt hat, "Peahen of 45" by milliner Jean Hicks, 2017
Jean Hicks is a Seattle-based milliner, felt-maker and educator. Her hats are functional and often theatrical in style. This 2017 hat is meant to represent the First Lady and is a companion to Hicks’ “Year of the Rooster” hat from the same year. It intentionally combines a mix of disparate textiles, including hand-felted Finn wool ("the worst felt I have made in a while" said Hicks), up-cycled mink, citrus-colored netting, millinery wire, and other assorted finds.
