The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE), held in Seattle in 1909, was a major national event for the young but fast growing city, and celebrated the emerging development of the Pacific Northwest. Each day celebrated or commemorated a famous person, state, place, or event, and many souvenirs were sold along with these commemorations. Official medals were struck in the Mint Exhibit on the fairgrounds and sold by the Mayer Bros. of Seattle -- silver for $1, bronze, copper and gilt for 25 cents. This fob was acquired at the Exposition by the donor's grandparents presumedly on the day that President Taft's attendance was commemorated.
