Cecilia Schultz (1878-1971) was known as Seattle's impresario who was responsible for bringing world renowned musicians, singers, and ballet dancers to the city starting in the 1930s. At that time, she managed the Moore Theatre for 25 years, featuring her "Greatest Artists Series" until 1949. In 1965, she and her husband funded the furnishing and decorating of the "Cecilia Schultz Room" at the Seattle Opera House where this portrait was installed. The artist, Ted Rand (1916-2005), was born on Mercer Island, Washington, and was a portrait painter as well as an advertising and children's illustrator. He worked as a graphic artist at Frederick & Nelson, and the Bon Marché, and taught at the University of Washington for twenty years.
