Mural, "Race of Man," by Kenneth Callahan, ca. 1930s
Order an ImageThe mural "Race of Man" was originally displayed at the Sequim Public Library in the 1930s. Patrons objected and the mural was removed. The artist Kenneth Callahan (1905-1986) was one of the founders of the Northwest School of art in the mid-20th century. He was known for his bold forms and dramatic depictions of the human condition. MOHAI also holds in its collection, Callahan’s famous 10-piece mural, "Men Who Work the Ships" painted in 1936, and features life and work in the Seattle shipyards.
