Order an ImageThis purse belonged to Louise McKinney (1930-2012), educator, community activist, arts patron, and wife of Reverend Samuel B. McKinney of Mount Zion Baptist Church. The purse had originally belonged to her mother Laura Lee Stewart Jones of Cleveland, Ohio. McKinney (née Jones) graduated from Western Reserve (now Case Western Reserve) University in 1952 and in 1953 met and married Samuel McKinney. The couple came to Seattle in 1958 when Samuel began tenure as senior pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
