Microsoft Zune HD and AV digital audio player, 2009
The Zune portable digital media player was created in 2006 and marketed by Microsoft as a competitive device to the highly popular Apple iPod. Along with the portable player, the Zune brand included a music subscription service, a marketplace for music, TV and movies, streaming services for the Xbox 360 game console, and desktop media software. The Zune made a valiant attempt to garner a portion of the portable media player market share, but ultimately failed to sustain the public's interest and was discontinued in 2012.
