Peter R. Hallock (1924-2014) was an American organist, choirmaster, countertenor, and composer and arranger of church music (particularly anthems, hymns, and psalm settings for Episcopal liturgy). He grew up in Kent and studied organ performance at the University of Washington. He also enrolled at the College of Saint Nicolas of the Royal School of Church Music in Canterbury, England and became the first American Choral Scholar at Canterbury Cathedral. In 1951 he began as the organist and choirmaster at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle. Throughout his career, he had a significant influence on church music and liturgy in the United States and internationally. These are his vestments for the Compline Choir, the group he founded in 1956 that sings the monastic office of Compline (the last prayers of the day) at Saint Mark’s Cathedral every Sunday.
