Seattle-based TomboyX launched in 2012 to meet a need, though a different one than originally intended. Fran Dunaway wanted to design a better button-down shirt for women. The online fundraising campaign resonated with those looking for something different, but shirts were not what they wanted. So many people voiced a need for gender-neutral underwear that Dunaway and co-founder Naomi Gonzalez shifted directions. The Essential Soft Bra and 4.5" Trunks are now two of TomboyX’s best-selling products. TomboyX works to give people a first layer that affirms and celebrates who they are, in size XS to 4X.
