Pay 'n Save was a retail company founded in Seattle in 1940. It was a successful drugstore chain and, throughout it's nearly 50-year run, owned or operated several other retailers such as Lamonts, Ernst Hardware, Malmo Nursery, Bi-Mart, Sportswest, Schuck's Auto Supply, Yard Birds, Von Tobel's, and Price Savers. Ernst Home Centers was a chain of home improvement stores founded in Seattle in 1893 by brothers Charles and Fred Ernst. In the 1960s, the Ernst stores and Malmo Nursery were purchased by Pay 'n Save, and these two entities merged to become Ernst-Malmo. Rhodes Department Store was also purchased and the name changed to Lamonts. This small advertising card would have been posted at the Pay 'n Save cash register to let customers know what other retailers accepted the company credit card. In 1988, Pay 'n Save was sold to Thrifty Corporation and the company name was retired.
