Multi-media artwork, "Hairshirt: I Love Dick's," by Dorothy Rissman, 2008
This contemporary artpiece featuring a jacket made out cowhide, and hamburger wrappers and french fries from local fast food restaurant Dick's Drive-In, serves as a commentary on material consumption using recycled materials. The artist, Dorothy Rissman (1944-2018), was noted for her work in discarded media, or trash, the use of which, she states, allows the viewer to “discover beautiful objects that were the discards of others,” forcing us to focus on objects that are normally overlooked everyday." Dick's Drive-In is an iconic Seattle attraction founded by Dick Spady in 1954. There are several Dick's located throughout the Seattle area.
