Convertible folding table and ping pong table designed and patented by Berger Anderson, Boeing employee, 1957
Berger Anderson, born in Sweden, was an employee for Boeing from 1928-1961. He was scheduled to be on a test flight of a prototype B-29 on Feb. 18, 1943, which crashed into the Frye meat packing plant in the Georgetown neighborhood, killing all eleven souls on board, including the pilot, Edmund T. Allen, the most experienced test pilot at Boeing. Anderson never called in sick but, luckily on this day, he happened to do so. Like Anderson and his convertible ping pong table, many Boeing engineers would use their technological know-how to develop and patent other innovative inventions.
