Pair of shoes with wooden soles, made during WWII, ca. 1943-1945
L. Jane Hastings became a prominent and well-respected architect in Seattle in the 1950s and was involved in many architectural, professional, and community organizations in the area. Jane owned several pairs of clogs made to order and she remembers wearing these clogs on a trip to Holland where people pointed at them and were amazed. The maker, Oscar Auestad, a Norwegian immigrant, worked in Portland.
