The Kalakala has a long, tragic history of concerned citizens valiantly trying to save the ferry from demolition. This ornament was made and sold to support the efforts of the Kalakala Foundation to "preserve, refloat and return the historic ferry, Kalakala. In 2015, the current owner had to hire a demolition crew to destroy the Kalakala, and this ornament is especially significant as it sadly represent good efforts to no avail.
