Radioactive dime souvenir from Hanford Laboratories, 1964
Dimes such as these were used by Boy Scouts from the Blue Mountain Council of Scouts in Washington and Oregon at the 1964 National Boy Scout Jamboree near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The dime was part of the new Atomic Energy Merit Badge created in 1963 and renamed the Nuclear Science Merit Badge in 2005. The Scouts traded the dimes with other Scouts at the Jamboree for souvenirs such as neckerchiefs and badges.
