T-shirt, "Read My Lips," owned by Philip Bereano, co-founder of ACT UP Seattle, ca. 1988

Artist collective Gran Fury created this “Read My Lips” image for T-shirts and printed material supporting ACT UP. ACT UP stands for AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power and advocated for immediate and meaningful action to fight the AIDS crisis and end homophobia. The original photograph of two WWII sailors embracing is in the collection of the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. This shirt was donated by ACT UP Seattle co-founder Philip Bereano.
