The team was established in 2012, as one of eight inaugural members of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The roster for the 2013 season included goalkeeper Hope Solo, captain Keelin Winters, and top scorers Megan Rapinoe and Jessica Fishlock. In 2020 the team became the OL Reign.
