Contour helmet camera, 2012

In the early 2000s, two University of Washington students, Jason Green and Marc Barros, created a helmet camera in order to record skiing stunts. The UW awarded them a $20,000 entrepreneurship prize in 2003 and they founded the company, Contour, in 2004. The cameras were used for skiing, cycling, motorcycling, and other action sports. The mounted camera was a huge success but soon faced competition from rival company, GoPro, which had increased marketing presence. In 2013, Contour closed its operations and merged with iON Cameras.
