Artist Jean Raleigh Eckert worked at Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair as a portrait artist. Working in pastels, she created portraits of fairgoers that they could take home as souvenirs. Eckert was employed by the fair organizers, and she and other portrait artists were issued these smocks as a uniform. It features a rounded collar and a large front pocket shaped like a painter’s palette.
