This 1980s skirt suit has a label that reads "Made in Italy Exclusively for The Mediterranean Seattle by Roberto Avolio Milano." The Mediterranean was a high-end Italian import store in Seattle that opened in 1964 and closed in 2003. Run by Italian-born Gina Medina and her husband Frank, the inventory was sourced from small fashion houses in Milan and Florence which Gina built relationships with over the years. This suit is from the estate of sisters Genevieve (1912 - 2008) and Donna Gorder (1921-2018). Genevieve was a teacher and Donna worked as a research technician in medical labs at both the Veteran’s Hospital on Beacon Hill and the University of Washington. They shared a home in Madison Park, and enjoyed shopping for (and wearing) designer clothing from local stores.
