Black, blue and purple Barclay Girls Can-Can dress, ca. 1958
The Barclay Girls got their start on Pier 91, dancing the can-can for servicemen setting sail and returning from the Korean War. When the war ended, they danced gigs around town, including at Seafair. Most of the dancers were still in high school. Leilani Larsen, who wore this costume, remembers sewing the sequins on during Spanish class.
