Orange plastic street hockey ball used for bike polo in Seattle, ca. 2005
Order an ImageCycle polo, bicycle polo, or bike polo is similar to traditional polo, except that bicycles are used instead of horses. Invented in Ireland in 1891 by a retired champion cyclist, the sport was initially played on grass, but the hardcourt game was later introduced and gained more interest around the turn of the 21st century. This street hockey ball was used in games played in and around Seattle and, according to the original owner, it was the favored type of ball after trying many others. The ball was filled with water for more handling control.
