Boeing developed the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber aircraft in the 1930s for the US Army Air Corps (USAAC). The artist, Abe Blashko (1920-2011), was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and was self-taught in the creation of drawings and prints. His works often featured the struggles of the Great Depression and the atrocities happening in Europe leading up to, and during, World War II and the holocaust. Growing up in Seattle's booming Boeing industry and the heavy influence of the war is evident in Blashko's somber drawing of this airplane.
