While you could buy shirts and dresses printed with 1962 World’s Fair patterns, some companies also made fabrics for fairgoers to create their own designs. This dress is made from a patterned fabric which may have been intended for making skirts (since the pattern is along the lower part of the fabric and plainer where you would gather the waistband) but the maker of this dress got creative. They created the skirt using the fabric as intended, but used the plainer areas to create the top, and then cut out and appliquéd a Space Needle on the bodice. The bolero jacket uses various parts of the main pattern, centering the International Fountain on the back and appliquéing other buildings on the sleeves. The buttons on the front are just a design detail and don’t function. The bolero closes with a hook and eye at the neck.
