This illustration is derived from a visit of Spanish explorers Alacala Galiano and Dionysio Valdes to what are now the Canadian Gulf Islands in the summer of 1792. The caption on the print states, "Vista de una Galeria natural de cien pies de largo y die de ancho, en la immediacion del Puerto del Descanso, en el Estrecho de Juan de Fuca." The donor of the print roughly translated this as: "View of a natural gallery one hundred feet long and ten feet high, in the area of Port Descanso, in the Strait of Juan de Fuca." This area is located at the northwest end of Gabriola Island. The artist of this illustration is unknown.
