Salt container from Tradewell Grocery Store in Seattle, ca. 1950s-1960s
Tradewell was a major supermarket chain founded in the Seattle area in 1939 and became a fixture of Pacific Northwest grocery retail before eventually fading out in the 1980s. Founding president Monte L. Bean transformed several failing grocers into this supermarket giant and served the company for two decades before shifting focus to companies he and his sons owned, namely Pay'n Save, Ernst, and Lamonts.
