Washington Mutual (WaMu) was incorporated as the Washington National Buliding Loan and Investment Association in 1889. With marketing slogans like "The Friend of the Family" and "Simpler Banking, More Smiles," WaMu was marketed as a user-friendly bank. Kerry Killinger was named CEO of WaMu in 1991, but, as a result of the subprime mortgage crisis in 2007-2008, Killinger was removed by the WaMu board in August 2008. Soon after, WaMu souvenirs, like this bobblehead, were being sold on the internet.
