Eustace Paul Ziegler (1881 - 1969) was a noted Northwest artist known for his depictions of Alaskan and Pacific Northwest landscapes and industry. In 1924, Ziegler was commissioned to execute a number of large paintings for company offices in Seattle. He was a founder and the first president of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters. He was one of the first artists to be featured in a one-man exhibit at the newly opened Frye Art Museum in 1952. This watercolor painting was done as a study for the large logging murals commissioned by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to hang in its lobby entrance. This painting was gifted in 1952 to Paul Copeland who was a member of the Puget Sound Group of Artists, along with Ziegler.
