Al Young (1946-2022) was a Chinese American Seattle history enthusiast. He worked for the Seattle School District for 35 years as a history teacher and taught auto maintenance to many students. During the 1970s and 1980s, Al spent his weekends traveling to various tracks in the Pacific Northwest and around the United States and competitively race this souped-up Dodge Challenger. He was sponsored by local business, Bardahl, famous for their synthetic automotive oil. Al won every major drag racing event in the Northwest at least twice and the American Hot Rod Association World Championship in 1981. Al states: "I chose MOHAI as a museum to donate my car to because of its Northwest emphasis, and the fact that my car represents a grassroots effort to create a winning combination. Practically every contributor to its success are Northwest racing or automotive icons. From the Bardahl Corporation, which has been a Northwest icon since the 1950s, to Art Morrison (who personally built part of the race car when he just had a small shop) whose cars are now featured in Nintendo Games and judged as the best custom cars in the world. This car is a piece of Northwest automotive racing history and MOHAI is a museum that recognizes the history and industry of the Puget Sound region."
