McCaw Cellular Communications was a pioneering cellular telephone company based in Redmond, Washington. In 1981, Craig McCaw (b. 1949) began buying cellular licenses in cities across the US, and in 1987 he sold the cable TV portion of his family business and fully transitioned the company to cellular communications. By 1989 McCaw had access to all the major US markets and introduced their “Cellular One” service in 1990. They partnered with AT&T to create this first national cellular system and in 1994 they negotiated a merger. This denim shirt belonged to McCaw Cellular employee Jordan Roderick. These shirts were given out to all the attendees of the last McCaw Cellular general council meeting in 1994 prior to the merger with AT&T. Roderick began his career with McCaw in 1980 and continued working for AT&T after the merger until his retirement in 2005. The embroidered text on the shirt reads “McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. For The Last Time.”
