Order an ImageCarl Morris (1911-1993) was a painter born in California. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and several years in Paris and Vienna. Morris served as the director of the Spokane Art Center during the late 1930s. He worked with fellow Pacific Northwest artist Mark Toby, and was a figurative painter until the end of WWII, then painted abstractions. Morris settled in Portland, Oregon, where he was honored with the Oregon Governor's Award for the Arts.
