No vehicle was more recognizable in late 20th century Seattle than Lincoln Towing's Pink Toe Truck. Inspired by an offhand remark from a forgotten salesman who visited company owner Ed Lincoln, the Toe was built by Ed Ellison from an old VW bus chassis and the toes were sculpted by Joane C. McInnis. The rolling pink foot made its debut at the 1980 Seafair Torchlight Parade and appeared at dozens of festivals around the region. Ultimately, the Toe sat on a platform at the old Lincoln towing yard on Mercer Street at Fairview, where thousands of motorists saw it every day. Following the popularity of the "left foot" tow truck, the folks at Lincoln built in 1997 a right foot tow truck from the chassis of a 1968 Chevrolet van which remains with the towing business. This artifact is not currently on display.
