The Kingdome, officially called the King County Multipurpose Domed Stadium, was built in 1976 south of downtown Seattle. The “SODO” neighborhood was originally named as such because it was “south of the dome.” The Kingdome was home to the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, and for a time the Seattle SuperSonics. The domed stadium was eventually demolished by implosion in 2000 to make way for the new Seahawks stadium. MOHAI has a large collection of Kingdome memorabilia collected prior to its demolition.
